Activism for Peace

The Scope of Peace Activism

A peace activist chooses nonviolent methods to prevent or end violent conflicts, to end non-democratic rule, and to organize transitional processes that are as peaceful as possible. Peace activists now work to address issues such as climate change, poverty, and social injustice, understanding that these aspects of human well-being are interconnected.  |  My Story

My nearly four decades of peace activism

My nearly four decades of peace activism involves different approaches to solve problems nonviolently, democratically and in favor of peaceful transitions:

  • research into different traditions to find similar approaches toward ending war and building peace
  • work to educate, inform and inspire the general voting public to oppose negative policies and choose constructive solutions, as a presidential candidate in five Green Party primaries
  • working with a group, AVP, to educate the U.S. government administration that institutional policies and practices of the federal government violate national and international humanitarian law

Current and upcoming efforts for peace

In my current role as Executive Strategist for American Voices for Peace (AVP)I am working on ways to have the ear of the incoming administration regarding how to de-escalate tensions in the Middle East.

I am working on becoming a Nonviolent Communication (NVC) practitioner and trainer.

Other roles include being a president and secretary of Civilization Transformation Project, a small nonprofit focused on rehabilitating howler monkeys.

I am a member and supporter of AVAAZ, the world’s largest online activist network on issues such as climate change, human rights and conflict.

Green Party

The scope of political activism

As a registered Green Party member since 1995 I have campaigned for myself and others, petitioned the state legislature, co-chaired a committee, been a treasurer multiple times, registered people to vote, raised funds, knocked on many doors, and been in over a dozen debates, presidential forums and panel discussions.  |  My Story

My nearly three decades of slinging green

Beginning in 1996 I took steps with the Green Party of the United States to help organize this viable political alternative to the two-party system here in the U.S. I’ve been: a Treasurer for two local parties and a campaign, a co-chair of a committee, a U.S. Senate candidate, and a presidential candidate for twenty years.

• have been an elected member of the San Diego Green Party County Council

• have been a California state delegate to the Green National Committee (G.N.C.) over 10 years

• have been a candidate for president in Green primaries five times

Current and upcoming green efforts

My next step is to help form Green chapters on Native American reservations by focusing on development of an Indigenous Caucus to better represent tribal needs to the national party.

As a member of the Elders’ Caucus representing Seniors and issues of aging in GPUS I intend to help recruit members and achieve accreditation by the national body.

I am also available as a speech-writer for candidates to federal public office.

Indigenous Advocacy

The scope of Indigenous advocacy

The more than 370 million Indigenous people are “arguably among the most disadvantaged and vulnerable groups of people in the world,” according to the United Nations. They inherit and practice unique cultures and ways of relating that deserve political representation. These first environmentalists teach us helpful perspectives in this time of global environmental crisis.  |  My Story

Decades of standing up for Native Americans

Since the mid-nineties I have been an outspoken critic, calling for the United States to honor the Treaties with the original inhabitants here on Turtle Island.

• spearheaded a plan to have multi-party debates on reservations

• spoke at the Green Party of the United States Presidential Nominating Convention, Houston, TX, about the lack of federal recognition of Tribes in Texas.

• called for the Treaties to be honored as a main theme in five presidential runs

Current and upcoming efforts

Helping form Green chapters on Native American reservations by focusing on development of an Indigenous Caucus to better represent tribal needs to the national  Green Party.

Promoting local gardens for underserved communities such as Native American Reservations.

Available to speak about the importance of upholding international law such as Treaties and International Humanitarian Law (IHL).
